Kat Fraus
I work with children, teens, and adults across the lifespan to build self-esteem and confidence, so that you can feel happier and less stressed. As a former student, we might struggle with perfectionism, people-pleasing, worry, family issues, or an inner critic that can make the school year feel impossible. We can work together to reduce the "what ifs" and self-critical thoughts that can come with anxiety, panic, and depression.
Everyone is unique, which is why I use a variety of skills and approaches in sessions, pulling from both art and science. No matter your age, I love to bring play and creativity into sessions like art, movement, and writing to assist with self-expression, building confidence, and exploring your strengths. Therapy can be like a laboratory- we can try out different approaches to find what works for you, or we can use it as a testing ground to explore how you'd like others to see you.
Prior to landing at Therapy Today, I worked at a community mental health agency that served youth and families, many of whom were first-generation or had recently moved to the U.S. I gained experience treating anxiety, depression, trauma, and helping families struggling with life transitions, loss, and family conflict. While earning my Master of Social Work at the University of Michigan, I also served as a school-based therapist and worked alongside parents, teachers, school psychologists, and other professionals to help children continue to learn and grow.
When out of the office I enjoy crafting and painting. I also like to play soccer and go out on walks to connect with nature. When it's too cold to be outside, I spend my time indoors playing video games.
